This guide describes the voting capability available in the Agora.

The Agora depends on more than just good questions and helpful answers. It relies on a community that actively shapes how discussions happen, how resources are shared, and how trust is maintained. To support this, a community-driven voting feature give users a structured way to suggest ideas, discuss improvements, and collectively influence the future direction of the Agora.
The voting feature creates a dedicated space where members can propose changes, raise concerns, and share ideas that benefit the entire community.
A Community Space for Ideas and Improvements
Members can submit ideas related to any aspect of the community experience. These suggestions may include improvements to forum rules, new features, better ways to organize legal discussions, or proposals for making information easier to access.
Examples of community proposals could include:
- Creating clearer guidelines for distinguishing legal information from formal legal advice
- Improving categories or tags for different areas of law
- Introducing new standards for citing legal sources
- Suggesting ways to improve the quality of discussions
- Proposing changes to community guidelines
- Recommending tools that help users find relevant legal discussions faster
Each idea becomes a discussion topic where other members can provide feedback, ask questions, suggest refinements, and vote on whether they support the proposal.
How Voting Works
The process is designed to encourage thoughtful participation:

A user submits an idea
Members can propose a change or improvement by posting a topic on the private ballot category. The proposal should explain the problem, the suggested solution, and the expected benefit for the community.

The community discusses the proposal
Other members can comment, ask questions, and suggest modifications. This helps refine ideas before decisions are made.

Members vote
Members can vote by interacting with the counter in the topic header to show support or disagreement with a proposal. Voting provides a visible measure of community interest and helps highlight ideas that deserve further attention.
Moreover, inside the ballot category, members can click the Votes top menu item to sort ideas by their vote count. The My Votes top menu item filters to only show topics they’ve voted for.

The community reviews outcomes
Popular proposals can be reviewed by moderators or administrators for implementation, testing, or further discussion. Some ideas may lead to immediate changes, while others may require technical, legal, or operational review.
Note : In the ballot category used for voting topics, reactions are automatically deactivated.
Important : Members only have a certain number of available votes. When a vote is cast, that is called an “active vote”. Vote limits are meant to encourage thoughtful voting on the topics that matter most.
- The vote limit is determined by trust level;
- Each member can cast only one vote per topic;
- Votes are locked when a topic is closed or archived, but the votes are no longer considered active. The members who cast these votes will have their one vote from that topic restored to their pool of available votes.
Encouraging Responsible Participation
Because the Agora focuses on legal discussions, community voting must be based on constructive reasoning rather than popularity alone. A proposal receiving many votes may show strong interest, but changes should also consider legal accuracy, user safety, fairness, and the overall purpose of the platform.
Members are encouraged to support their votes with explanations, evidence, and practical considerations. This helps create a culture where decisions are guided by informed discussion.
Improving Trust Between Users and Moderators
Transparency is essential. The Agora voting system creates a bridge between members and moderators by making improvement discussions visible and accessible.
Members gain a clearer understanding of why certain rules exist, while moderators gain insight into the community’s needs and concerns. Over time, this collaboration can help create better policies, more effective moderation, and a stronger sense of ownership among members.
